Stage AE / 06.21.2013 / $12-$15

Words by Brendan

The Pittsburgh Scene has put together a great event happening on this-coming-Friday evening. Six local bands of various genres will be performing at Stage AE, and the best part is that all proceeds will go towards Operation Smile, a non-profit charity organization that works to help children with facial deformities. They send doctors/dentists to impoverished nations to provide aid for children in need, performing minor surgeries that can vastly improve their quality of life. As they put it, “you can fundamentally change the trajectory of a child’s life for the price of a low-end guitar, [which] really puts things in perspective.”

Here is the Facebook event for the show, and you can buy tickets online here. Click on the links below for more info about the bands playing. And be sure to follow The Pittsburgh Scene—Website / Facebook / Twitter—for more info about the local music community here and other great events.

  1. We just learned that The Pittsburgh Scene is producing a benefit event for Operation Smile at Stage AE this Friday, 21 June. This is exciting news to us and we’d really like to know how we can help, whether or not you already have a contact within our organization and how Operation Smile was chosen? Any details would be great to know (for me especially as a native of Pittsburgh).

In addition, it is possible that we could have a representative on site at the show. I can’t be sure of it yet, but we do have an Operation Smile VP who lives in Pittsburgh. She does travel a lot, but we could at least ask her if she’d be in town and available.

If there is someone specific I should be communicating with, a referral would be much appreciated. Feel free to forward this email. I can be reached by email or phone. My direct line is below and our toll-free number is 888-677-6453. Hours at the headquarters office are 8:30am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday.

Operation Smile is a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate worldwide. It is great to unexpectedly find others who know of us and wish to support our work.
    All the best,

  2. Hey Bruce,
Hope you see this message, couldn’t find your email address anywhere.

This event is being put on by local music website “The Pittsburgh Scene”:

I suggest getting in touch with that site’s manager, Craig Anderson: pittsburghscenecraig@gmail.com

    Best wishes!

  3. Many thanks Brendan for your help. I see now that the site doesn’t publish addresses automatically. Good policy, but I should have added it. We’re excited about the show and I wish I were home so I could go.
