Minus The Bear / LIVE + Ticket Giveaway

Minus The Bear + Cursive + Caspian

Stage AE / 09.21.2012 / Doors 6:30 / $22-$25

Words by Brendan

I’m going to hand this introduction over to Minus The Bear‘s singer/guitarist Jake Snider. This quote comes from an interview with SPIN.

A friend of the band had gone on a date, and one of us asked him afterwards how the date went. Our friend said, ‘You know that TV show from the ’70s B.J. and The Bear? It was like that minus the bear.’ That’s the straight truth.

I just find that hilarious. I had to share. Anywho, read on for details about how to win two tickets to see this great band on Friday night at Stage AE!

Cursive / Wowowow

Minus The Bear has a brand new album, Infinity Overhead, just released August 28 on Dangerbird Records. It’s a solid step forward for the band, after their generally lackluster 2010 release, Omni. The tunes on the latest LP are back to exploring their proggy pop rock roots, the best of what they do. Their guitar prowess is as powerful as ever, but not on display in a “look what I can do!” kinda way, which is nice. The hooks are there, as well, and create that kind of intelligent indie rock for which they’re known, while still making you wanna get up and dance. At least a little bit. Check out the video for lead single “Steel and Blood” to get an idea of what you’re in for:

Great stuff, right? Exactly. Fortunately, you have a chance to see Minus The Bear do their thing onstage at Stage AE in just two days! Apologies for holding this giveaway so close to the show; it really crept up on us, but we figured we’d do what we can to remind you about the show and help you get there! The band is touring with intense and impressive Omaha rock band Cursive (whose powerfully emotive live show I was lucky enough to catch at Mr. Small’s back in April), and post-rock instrumental band Caspian (who also have a brand new album, coming out on 09.25). You’ll definitely want to see this one, folks.

So, here’s how you can enter: leave a note on our Facebook wall (like us first or it won’t count!), @ us on Twitter (with the hashtag #MTBPgh, and follow us first!), or send me an email to enter the contest! Just say “I hope to add Minus the Bear to my Friday night!” or “Those Minus The Bear songs will be Infinitely Overheard by me!” or something silly like that. We’ll pick a winner (at random) tomorrow night (Thursday) at midnight, so get your entries in right away! We’ll contact the winner at midnight, and you’ll be able to pick up your tickets at the box office on Friday. Best of luck and see yinz there!
