Video Cornucopia !

So we typically toss a video at you, tell you why we think it’s awesome, and let you draw your own conclusion. Sometimes we throw a change-up…strike that – let’s call it a round up. All of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines. So I won’t be telling you much about the bands themselves, just my musings of what I think about the videos. Hold on to your hats!

Mountain Man – “Sewee Sewee”

If there came a day when these three girls shed their clothes and were found to be glowing eyed angels made of pure energy with feathery wings, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest. They continue to floor me with every song I hear. Pure beauty. Or maybe they’re sirens singing us to our doom. Whatever. As long as Mountain Man keeps singing, I don’t care what my fate is. (This is my favorite, but there’s two other songs if you follow the link. Wow. Just wow.)

Juniper Tar – “There Was Blood”

Juniper Tar – “There was Blood” from Spencer Wells on Vimeo.

I’m still in love with Juniper Tar and their Howl Street EP. It’s the perfect music at the lonely 6 AM hour. I’ve heard rumblings in the belly of the beast about new material being recorded and a full length release soon. Can’t come soon enough. This is an achingly beautiful song with harmonies so nice they almost detract from the lazy sunset scenery on the water. A few of the angles seem to be ahead of the sound, but I’ll forgive it. The songs just too good not to share.

The Acorn – “Misplaced”

THE ACORN – Misplaced from Mitch Fillion (southernsouls.ca) on Vimeo.

I just did an album review of The Acorn’s latest release No Ghost. A phenomenal album. I was more than excited to see that these songs, especially “Misplaced” stand up to the live treatment. There’s so much space!! I’m a sucker for nylon string guitars, even if one of them is missing a string. When that “I know I know I know” chorus kicks in and Klausener sings “There’s no suff or prefix / That binds to your name / It gets my tongue tied twisted / Like snowfall in May / There’s just no way” I want to fall out of my chair.

Meeting of Important People – “Brittney Layne”

Meeting Of Important People //// Brittney Lane from thomglunt on Vimeo.

As a foreshadowing of a future post, here’s one of our local favorites, Meeting of Important People, and their phenomenal music video. The caption reads “Everything in this video was built out of cardboard. Promptly after shooting the set was destroyed and taken back to the recycling dumpsters from which they came. The set took two weeks to build with a schedule of eight hours a day with an average of five volunteers a day. The stop animation took about three weeks to complete.” It’s a great video, but an even better song. Make sure you check back soon for our interview with front man Josh Verbanets and go see them live at The Brillobox on Saturday.

Lastly – if you haven’t experienced this yet, you have to: Arcade Fire’s interactive film The Wilderness Downtown featuring “We Used to Wait”. It’s pretty amazing and although Blake swears he told me about it a while ago (I probably wasn’t listening), it took Dani Buncher of Big Hurry to remind me (I always listen to Dani). Thanks to both of you! Do it!

One Response to “Video Cornucopia !”

  1. [...] anyone would give a shit about it. We made the first record, we had high hopes, we traveled a lot, we had a video that was viewed by 60,000 people, placements in commercials, we played CMJ. We never dreamed those things would happen, but I [...]
