Isbells

So here’s the deal, I found Isbells. And who am I to keep them from you? Mix 1 part Bon Iver, 2 parts of awesome and you get this band hailing from Belgium. Is this recommendation a bit premature? Maybe. I’ve only had the chance listen to the album a few times now, but when this album first hit my ear drums, WOOO! The subtle guitar licks, the male/female harmonies, and the chilling lyrics make this album something really special.

For anyone out there who has been eagerly awaiting Justin Vernon’s next release, you really need to give this self-titled album a listen. Now am I saying this band is the next Bon Iver? Of course not, there’s only one Justin Vernon. But like For Emma, Forever Ago, this is a great album for a rainy evening. Turn it up, close the blinds, and let these guys bounce off your walls. When I picture Isbells performing, I can’t help but see them sitting around a campfire. The crackling of the burning wood, the breeze blowing through the leaves, the smell of marshmallows being burnt and the glow of the hot coals warming everyone enjoying what Isbells has to offer. Reunite is an unsettling tune that hits your right off the bat with a rhythmic little riff that is catchy, eerie, and just plain sick. Check these guys out, listen to a few more songs, check out their Myspace page.
