Laura Veirs / July Flame / Video

For any stop animation fan out there, this will be a treat. Is it smooth? Hell no, but it’s not supposed to be. Laura Veirs’, “July Flame”, is a song that grabs you and doesn’t let go. It is a song that lights you up and makes you want find out about all of her other material. This video has been around for a while now and I have no idea how I missed it. I just don’t want all of you to miss out on what I’ve deprived myself of for the last 6 months. Gah, how’d I miss it?! Fireworks, the great outdoors, a bonfire, and a family of deer, straight up Bambi-style, it doesn’t get much more summer than that.

More after the jump…

This video reminds me of the days of Christmas cartoon making. Like the Rudolf’s and Frosty’s and (my person favorite) A Year Without a Santa Claus. While the video is great, it is the song, “July Flame”, that gets you. Laura is a tremendous talent who I had the pleasure to see this past winter while she was touring with Blind Pilot. Going into the show, I didn’t really know of Laura but she made an impression on me that is undeniable. She’s a veteran of the stage and her presence tells you that from the moment she got up there. The July Flame LP is a great pick up, her songs are exactly what the doctor ordered on a summer evening.

Like what you hear? Pick up July Flame or any of Laura’s other stuff at Insound.
